Saints target ‘four or five’ signings

CALLUM DAVIDSON admits St Johnstone need to recruit this summer.

And will focus on quality over quantity when it comes to signings.

The Saints boss needs to find suitable first-team replacements for Zander Clark, Callum Hendry and Jamie McCart if all three leave, as planned.

Last summer, the Perth club relied on too many loan deals and short-term fixes to fill the gaps in their squad, with serious surgery in January.

But this time around, Davidson knows he has to build right now with the future in mind.

The Saints boss, who appointed recently retired Liam Craig to improve his player identification, said: “It’s very important that we have good recruitment this summer.

“We are looking for quality to bring in to make sure we have a better season this time. Bringing that quality, players ready to go straight into the team, that’s what we’re looking for.

“We are desperate to get the four or five new faces we want, but at this time of year you have to be patient to get whoever you want.

“Conversations are all happening, offers are being made – it’s just about waiting for answers now.”
